Alternative Provision — a full package, not just teaching hours

When a pupil is placed with The Learning Lab, you are commissioning a complete wraparound service: specialist education, safeguarding, planning, progress monitoring, parent communication and structured school liaison. Designed for SENCOs and headteachers who need confidence that every element of a placement is accounted for.

Small-group specialist learning session

What's included in a placement

Six components that together make up a Learning Lab Alternative Provision placement. Each is delivered as standard — not as an optional extra.

Educational Provision

Personalised, curriculum-aligned learning delivered by specialist tutors. Sessions are planned around each pupil's needs, EHCP outcomes and current attainment, with a focus on rebuilding engagement and academic progress.

Safeguarding

Robust safeguarding practice throughout: DBS-checked staff, a named DSL, clear reporting routes and daily attendance and welfare communication with the placing school. Incidents and concerns are logged and shared without delay.

Planning

Each placement begins with an intake meeting and a written learning and support plan. We agree targets, timetable, risk considerations and reintegration goals with school and family before the pupil starts.

Progress Monitoring

Ongoing formative assessment against agreed outcomes, with written progress reports issued each half term. Data is shared in a format that supports EHCP annual reviews and school reporting.

Parent Communication

Regular, consistent contact with parents and carers — including a weekly update, a named point of contact and clear channels for questions or concerns. Families are treated as partners in the plan.

School Liaison & Review Meetings

Half-termly review meetings with the placing school and SENCO, with additional check-ins as needed. We coordinate with external professionals and support planned reintegration where appropriate.

Designed with SENCOs and headteachers in mind

We know that placing a pupil off-site carries statutory responsibility. Every placement includes clear documentation, named points of contact, and reporting you can bring straight into an EHCP annual review or governor report. If a placement is intended as a stepping stone back into mainstream, reintegration planning is built in from day one.
